DJI OSMO ACTION IS HERE
What a bomb! The new DJI Osmo Action arrived today and of course we've had the opportunity to test it at WetalkUAV in the past days, to deliver an in depth review of it. We've also compared it to the GoPro Hero 7 Black, and we even attached it to a DJI Mavic 2 Zoom drone :). Here's the link to the full review :
It's been a surprise. We wouldn't have guessed a few months ago, when the Osmo Pocket was released, that DJI would hit the action camera market. Being GoPro the absolute king in this industry, it's going to be very exciting how DJI manages to bite their own piece of the cake.
Talking about the camera, we are absolutely impressed. Not only it delivers the same quality in terms of image / video output, but it shines with the ROCKSTEADY feature, which is no other than EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization), developed by DJI. Its stabilisation is close to miraculous. You can walk, run, and even get on a bike, and the stabilisation you'll get out of the tiny camera will be astonishing.
Here are some of the most important specs:
- Sensor 1/2.3" CMOS 12MP
- Lens: FOV 145º F2.8
- Touch screen: 2.25 inches
- Front Color screen: 1.4 inches
- Battery capacity: 1300 mAh
- Weight 214g
- Raw Photo
- 4k60p / 1080p240
- HDR Video 4k30p
- Max Bit Rate 100Mbps
- Voice Control
- 2 microphones
- Rotating screen
We have to highlight a few specs that blew our mind. First, of course the color front screen. That will allow us to see what we're framing, either when vlogging or when just attaching it to a bike for example. That's pretty awesome.
Also, the HDR Video feature has surprised us. It truly gets an amazing video output, well balanced and colored, almost no needing post production. However you'll only be able to get great results if you have tons of light.
To control and if you need a bigger screen to see what you're framing, DJI has shared the DJI Mimo App that up to this point was only used for the Osmo Pocket. Basically with the same functions, its ease and simplicity makes the app really good.
We'll see how #DJI manages the #OsmoAction accessories. What we do know now, is that we've been using the same accessories than on the gopro, as they both share the same mounting systems, which makes our life a bit easier.
If we were talking about the Osmo Pocket as a possible GoPro killer, now the battle is even bigger. Upcoming months are going to be very interesting.
